About Me
I'm Josh! I'm a hobbyist programmer turned full-time student and aspiring systems developer. I started programming in 2018 when I was 18 years old, learning how to make games with lower-level libraries like SDL and GLFW, instead of engines like Unity or Godot. Through this, I learned that my passion wasn't making games, but systems programming. This inspired me to install Linux for the first time and I've been using it as my main OS since then.
When I was 23 I decided that I wanted to make a career out of this passion, so I enrolled at Wilkes University. I've met many great mentors during my time there, and they've pushed me to be the best engineer I can be. I spend most of my free time writing code and learning as much as I can.
Other Than Code
My career path before programming was Carpentry. I went to school for it initially and became NOCTI and HBA certified. In my time before college, I rose up to the level of Superintendent Carpenter, and lead large crews on some pretty insane jobs.
I even owned my own Finish Carpentry business for about 4 years. During that time I learned skills and lessons I never would have otherwise. I learned to appreciate and manage my time, all the coordination that owning a business requires, and to value the quality of my work above all else. Making peoples visions and dreams become reality was one of the biggest blessings I've had the pleasure to be a part of.
Woodworking will always be a passion and hobby of mine, and I'm thankful for everyone I've met and all that I've learned during that time. I'm excited to see where this next chapter takes me.
